Placement guide
Hand
Hand tattoos are the visible end of the spectrum — impossible to hide and famously quick to age. A snake that coils around the thumb or flows over the back of the hand is a serious statement, not a first tattoo.
The hand is a high-commitment, small, irregular surface — snakes work as a coil around the thumb or a slim line over the back of the hand.
- Size range
- Small to medium, constrained by the surface.
- Detail
- Hands have no forgiving skin. Bold, simple shapes only — this is the worst place on the body to try fine detail.
- Comfort
- One of the more painful placements; hands are dense with nerves and thin skin.
- Visibility
- Maximum. This is public, permanent body modification culture.
- Aging & wear
- Hands fade and spread noticeably — high wash-out, high sun, constant movement. Expect touch-ups.
