Placement guide
Ribs
The ribs offer one of the most beautiful and most feared canvases on the body. A snake can rise from the hip, following the curve of the side, its body bending with yours. It is intimate, hidden, and famously painful.
A long, vertical, curved canvas — the classic home of the snake that rises from hip toward chest, following the curve of the side.
- Size range
- Medium to large — vertical compositions shine.
- Detail
- Detail works, but the canvas is curved and breathing moves it constantly. Your artist will place the piece with you standing in a neutral pose so it flows with your body rather than fighting it.
- Comfort
- One of the most intense placements for most people — thin skin over bone, ticklish and sharp by turns.
- Visibility
- Low — private unless you choose to show it.
- Aging & wear
- Weight change and pregnancy can shift rib tattoos more than most placements. Worth an honest conversation with your artist.
